Portal High School Anchor Club
The Portal High Anchor Club is a service based organization that strives to address needs in the community. In September, Anchors work with the Portal Heritage Society to prepare for the annual Turpentine Festival. Also in September, the Anchors help with the annual Willow Hill Prayer Breakfast. Each year in November, the Anchor Club coordinates the Thanksgiving Food Drive for needy families in Portal. In Statesboro, Anchors help with Portal's Relay for Life team at the Ogeechee Fairground.
Sponsored by the Statesboro Pilot Club, we work on several events throughout the year with Pilot members. The Statesboro Pilot Club focuses on brain-related injuries and diseases. During the week of the fair, Portal Anchors assist the Pilot Club with managing the Arts and Crafts Booth. Portal Anchors also help Pilots raise money for the treatment of brain-related illnesses during the annual Nancy Yawn Benefit Breakfast in November at RJ's Steakhouse.
The spring has offers more opportunities for Anchors to serve the community. Anchors put on the annual Brainminders Puppet Show to educate young children at Portal Elementary on how to have fun while protecting their heads from injuries.
Throughout the year, the Portal Anchors will continue to seek out opportunities to serve our community. Please contact Shannon Hattaway at Portal Middle High School if you know of a need that we might be able to lend a hand with.
